Co-Packing Resources for Canadian Food Brands

Guides, articles and answers to help you plan production, compare co-packers and launch with confidence.

A launch roadmap for food brands

Bringing a food product to market with a co-packer usually follows the same path. Use this roadmap to find the right resource for where you are now.

  1. Decide what you need a partner to do. Some brands want production, filling and labelling only; others want ingredient and packaging sourcing, warehousing and freight too. Our co-packing process guide shows how the stages fit together, and private label vs. co-packing helps you choose a model.
  2. Understand the rules. If you will sell across provincial borders or export, Safe Food for Canadians licensing applies to whoever manufactures, packages or labels your food. Start with how to choose a co-packer in Canada and the article on who needs an SFC licence.
  3. Choose your packaging. Format, barrier and minimums shape both shelf life and your first-run budget. Compare options in the packaging formats guide.
  4. Budget realistically. Minimums, set-up, testing, storage and freight all belong in your numbers. Read co-packing costs and MOQs, then use the landed-cost worksheet to compare offers.
  5. Get category-specific. Sauces raise questions about pH and filling; snacks about oxygen, breakage and allergens; beverages about formats and heat treatment. See the category pages below.
  6. Request quotes. Send every co-packer the same brief: product, packaging, certificates, sourcing needs and volume. Our quote form is built around exactly those details.

Everything here is general information for Canadian food brands. For anything regulatory, confirm your obligations with the CFIA and a qualified advisor.
